Customizing sheen in Substance Painter

This article explains how to work with the Sheen effect in Substance Painter for use with the WANNA renderer.

  1. In the shader settings tab, check enable sheen and move the sheenRoughnessFactor slider to 1.
  2. In the Texture Set Settings tab, add “Sheen color” and “Sheen roughness” channels for those texture sets in which you plan to adjust the sheen effect.
  3. In the Properties-Fill tab, activate and customize the sheen effect channels.
  4. If you are working with multiple texture sets, you may need to disable sheen for some of them. This can be done by adding a new shader instance in the Texture Set List tab.
  5. To edit a new shader, select it from the Shader Instance drop-down list of the Texture Set Settings tab. After that it will appear in the Shader Settings tab.
  6. Rename the resulting shader for convenience.
  7. Disable the sheen effect in the new shader.
  8. In the Texture Set List tab, set a new shader for all texture sets for which you want to disable sheen.
  9. To export the result correctly, make sure that substance_khr_export_plugin is installed in the Python tab, and Export shaders parameters is checked in Export settings.
