Footwear 3D Model Requirements (VTO)

This document outlines the category-specific requirements for footwear models used in WANNA Virtual Try-On (VTO) experience.

All General 3D Model Requirements apply to footwear models.
If your footwear model is intended for 3D Viewer, refer instead to 3D Viewer Model Requirements, as 3D Viewer has unified requirements regardless of product category.

Main Requirements

Requirement Details
Max triangles per shoe 65,000
Max primitives in a scene 105
Max texture size 2048x2048
Total texture pixels per model 18,873,368 px (per shoe model)
Archive file size (geometry + textures) ≤ 50 MB
File format glTF (.gltf) or GLB (.glb) only
Separate files per shoe Left and right shoes must be separate models
Same archive Both shoes in the same archive (do not mix GLB and GLTF in one archive)

Modelling Recommendations

Shoe Shape for Realism

  • Model the shoe as if worn on a foot:
    • Slightly widened collar
    • Raised tongue
  • This approach improves realism and Try-On alignment. You can use WANNA sample model as correct shaping references.

Left and Right Shoe Modelling

If your shoe design is symmetrical (no mirrored text or logos), you may create only one shoe (left or right). WANNA technology can then automatically mirror the model to generate the opposite shoe. This approach reduces file size and can help speed up experience startup.

However, if the model includes any text, logos, or other asymmetric features, these will appear reversed when mirrored. In such cases, you must model both the left and right shoes separately.

Adding gems

If your shoe design includes gems, refer to How to add beautiful gems to 3D models for detailed instructions on creating high-quality gem elements.

Photogrammetry & Scanning

  • Prepare shoes before photography or scanning:
    • Fill with paper or inserts to maintain shape
    • Raise the tongue and hide loose laces
  • Use soft, even lighting to avoid strong shadows or highlights
  • Recommended scan size: EU 41 / US 8 men’s (scales well to other sizes)

File Naming Conventions

Use consistent file naming to enable automatic shoe-side detection in WANNA Studio. The platform identifies shoes as left or right based on filename suffixes:

  • *_left.glb or  *_left.gltf → treated as left shoe
  • *_right.glb or  *_right.gltf→ treated as right shoe

Examples:

  • Nike_Air_max_270_react_right.glb
  • Converse_One_Star_left.gltf

If you upload both left and right shoes, include them in the same archive (ZIP), but do not mix .gltf and .glb formats in one archive.
