Shoes

Introduction

💡 Before you get started with this, please make sure you have read our general 3D model requirements.

All general requirements apply here, but footwear has some category-specific quirks. The biggest difference is that there are two objects in the scene (left and right shoe), which should be treated accordingly.

If only single side is provided, you will need to choose a side in the Wanna Studio prior to any further actions. It will then automatically mirror the given shoe to create another side, so left and right shoes will be mirrored copies of each other.

Additional requirements - shoes

  • Max 65k triangles per shoe due to performance and transport reasons.
  • If you provide both left and right shoes:
    • Left and right shoes should be separate .gltf or .glb files.
    • Both left and right shoe models should be in the same archive (although mixing .glb and .gltf in the same archive is not allowed).

Recommendations

  • You can use _left / _right suffixes in file names to let Studio automatically choose side of the shoe, for example Nike_Air_max_270_react_right.glb.
  • It is better to shape 3D model of the shoe as if it is on foot, with a widened collar and a raised tongue. Use the following low top and high top sample models to see how the shoe should be shaped.
  • Don't forget to check logos and inscriptions - if you mirror one side to create another, inscriptions will also be mirrored, rendering text unreadable. To fix that you will need to manually remodel respective parts of the mirrored shoe.
  • For photogrammetry-based production:
    • Shape the shoe correctly prior to making photos, like it is on a foot. You can do this by filling the shoes with paper or special inserts. You also need to push up the tongue and hide the ends of the laces, if possible.
    • Use soft lighting to prevent any shadows or highlights from appearing on the texture.
    • We recommend using shoe size 41 EU / size 8 US men for scanning and photogrammetry, as it looks best when scaling up and down to other sizes.

Sample

Here is a sample sneaker model with both right and left shoes present, feel free to use it as a reference.
