How to prepare Bag model in Blender

Table of Contents

Background

A lot of 3D Viewer extended functionality is encoded into the 3D model itself. This guide shows how to use Blender to convert generic 3D model of a bag and enable all the magic of WANNA 3D Viewer.

The end to end workflow would look as following:

  1. Create geometry.
  2. Texture bag 3D model using Substance Painter or any other software (don't forget to use WANNA shader for Substance).
  3. Download sample Blender file for a Large bag (longest side >30 cm) or for a Small bag (longest side <30 cm).
  4. Import the model you prepared into the respective sample Blender scene.
  5. Tune up dimensions, planes with baked AO and cameras - see the video.
  6. Remove all guides from the scene.
  7. Export resulting model from Blender into glTF (don't forget to include Cameras into export).

Important! This workflow only works with Blender versions 2.93 LTS, 3.3 LTS and above, please don't try to use it with older Blender versions.

This video shows steps 4-7, using Small bag as an example; steps for Large bags are almost identical.
